Terms of Use

Last updated: 14 October 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of https://ceilingfanlighting.com (the "Site"). The Site is operated by X Enterprises, LLC, 18122 3rd Dr SE, Bothell, WA 98012 ("we," "us," or "our"). By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

What the Site is, and what it is not

The Site publishes general information about ceiling fans and ceiling fan lighting: sizing, height, direction, energy use, ratings, bulbs, light kits, controls, care, and what to know before an installation. We are not a retailer, a brand, a fan maker, a lighting maker, an electrician, an electrical contractor, or an inspector. We do not sell fans, bulbs, light kits, controls, or any other product, and we do not provide technical support for any device.

Important electrical safety notice

Ceiling fans and light fixtures are electrical equipment, and they hang overhead. Electrical work can cause electric shock, burns, electrocution, and fire. A fan that is not properly supported can fall, and moving blades can cause injury. Light bulbs can get very hot. You are responsible for deciding whether any task is right for you, and for following the maker's manual, the markings on the fan and fixture, your local electrical code, and the law where you are. If you are not sure a task can be done safely, do not do it. Call a licensed electrician.

General information only; no professional, electrical, or safety advice

Content on the Site is for general information. It is not professional, electrical, engineering, code, inspection, or legal advice, and it is not a substitute for the maker's manual, a licensed electrician, or your local building department. We do not say that any fan, fixture, bulb, control, or task is safe, and nothing on the Site is a safety inspection or a diagnosis of any problem.

Licensed electricians; no do-it-yourself wiring

The Site does not give instructions for wiring, connecting, or splicing; for installing or replacing an electrical box, brace, or bracket; or for installing a fan, canopy, light kit, switch, dimmer, wall control, or remote receiver. Hire a licensed electrician for any installation, wiring, electrical box, switch, control, or light kit work, and for any check of the mount. Turn off power at the circuit breaker before any work near a fan's wiring, and turn off the fan and wait for the blades to stop before you touch it. If a fan or light flickers, buzzes, smells hot, sparks, or trips a breaker, stop using it and call a licensed electrician.

Owner tasks, ladders, and heights

Where the Site describes simple owner tasks, such as changing a bulb within the fixture's wattage marking, using the direction switch the manual shows, balancing blades with the maker's kit, or dusting, it does so for general information only. These tasks involve working overhead. Turn the fan and light off, let the blades stop and the bulbs cool, use a stable ladder, and follow the manual. If you are not comfortable with a task, call a licensed electrician or another qualified professional.

Fan makers and their manuals

Fans, light kits, bulbs, and controls are made and sold by third parties under their own terms. Steps and figures on the Site that come from a maker's manual are that company's guidance for its own model, credited to it; we have not tested them, they may not apply to your fan, and they may change. Your fan's manual and markings control. We are not responsible for any third party's products or instructions.

Electrical codes, permits, and local rules

Electrical codes and permit rules are set by states and local governments, and they vary and change. Ask your local building department whether a permit or inspection is needed before work is done. Your electrician is responsible for following the code that applies. Landlords, condominium and homeowner associations, and building managers may have their own rules.

Ratings, listings, and standards

Damp and wet ratings, listings, and standards such as UL 507 and ENERGY STAR certification are set and run by their owners. The Site describes them for general information only. Check the rating and markings on the product and in its manual. Standards bodies and government programs mentioned on the Site do not endorse the Site.

Brand names and trademarks

Brand, product, program, and standard names mentioned on the Site belong to their owners. We use them only to credit their own manuals, guidance, or standards. The Site is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any brand or organization it mentions.

Affiliate links

Some links may be affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. Any purchase is between you and the retailer, under the retailer's terms. See our Affiliate Disclosure.

Eligibility

The Site is for a general audience. It is not directed to children under 13.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Site in violation of any law;
  • copy, scrape, or republish Site content in bulk without our written permission;
  • interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site.

Intellectual property

Site content, design, and text are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law. You may view and share links to the Site for personal, non-commercial use. Third-party names and trademarks are covered under "Brand names and trademarks" above.

Third-party websites

Links to retailers, makers, electricians' associations, standards bodies, government agencies, and other websites are provided for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, products, prices, or policies.

Disclaimer of warranties

THE SITE AND ITS CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SITE, ANY PURCHASE FROM A THIRD PARTY, OR ANY INSTALLATION, WIRING, OR OTHER WORK ON, OR USE OF, ANY FAN, FIXTURE, BULB, OR CONTROL. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SITE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100). NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE LIMITED.

Indemnification

You will defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your misuse of the Site or your violation of these Terms.

Dispute resolution; binding arbitration; class-action waiver

Please read this section carefully. Except for small-claims matters and claims for injunctive relief over intellectual property, any dispute about these Terms or the Site will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The seat of arbitration will be King County, Washington, unless you and we agree otherwise. You and we waive any right to a jury trial and to take part in a class, consolidated, or representative action. If the class-action waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim must proceed in court and not in arbitration.

Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to the arbitration section, exclusive venue for permitted court actions is the state or federal courts in King County, Washington, and you consent to jurisdiction there.

Assignment and change of operator

We may assign or transfer these Terms, and the Site, to a successor operator, including as part of a sale of the Site, without notice to you. After that, the successor operator takes our place under these Terms and may post its own terms. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent.

Changes

We may update these Terms by posting a revised version on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use after that date means you accept the revised Terms.

Miscellaneous

These Terms, with the Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclosure, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Site. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
